Municipal Electric Corp. names new CEO

Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation, Inc.’s (DEMEC) Board of Directors announced that Kimberly A. Schlichting has been named DEMEC’s new President and CEO.

Schlichting will be the first woman to lead the nonprofit corporation, which owns and operates electric facilities that provide generation, transmission and distribution of electric power and energy to eight municipal electric utility members in Delaware and operates with a $150 million budget.

[Not a valid template]“In anticipation of Patrick McCullar’s departure, the DEMEC Board undertook a CEO succession planning process, which resulted in the unanimous selection of long-time COO Kimberly Schlichting,” said Board Chair Morris Deputy. “Kimberly’s ongoing commitment to our members, her eighteen years of experience with the company and the respect she has earned among her peers across the industry made it clear to us that she is the right choice to lead DEMEC into the future.” 

Kimberly joined DEMEC in 2003 and has held several leadership roles.  She most recently served as Chief Operating Officer and SVP of Power Supply.

Kimberly serves on the American Public Power Association (APPA) Board of Directors and as a member of their Executive Committee.  She also serves as the alternate trustee on the American Municipal Power (AMP) Board of Trustees and serves as the Delaware Network Coordinator for the APPA Mutual Aid Working Group.

Kimberly will assume her new role on October 16th. McCullar will remain under contract with DEMEC as a consultant to assist with the transition.

Grotto Grand Slam, Lewes,  gets new manager

Grotto Pizza announced that Dave D’Ignoti accepted a promotion to lead the team at Grotto Pizza Grand Slam in Lewes (17467 Shady Rd, Lewes, Del.) and is relocating from his former position at Grotto Pizza Grand Slam in Seaford.

 D’Ignoti, an employee for over thirteen years, will manage the daily operations of the restaurant.

“Dave brings a positive, can-do energy to every task that’s presented to him, and we believe he’s the perfect fit for our Grand Slam Lewes location,” said Jeff Gosnear, vice president of Grotto Pizza. “It’s part of our mission to promote team members that present exemplary leadership and work ethic, and Dave represents both qualities tenfold. We’re thrilled he accepted the GM role at one of our flagship locations and are excited for a busy summer season.”

Beau Biden Foundation announces new CFO/COO.

The Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children announced that Peter V. Curcio has been appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer. Curcio succeeds Joshua Alcorn, who recently accepted a new opportunity to help nonprofits amplify their fundraising efforts. 

Curcio is a non-profit executive with experience in management and development. He has served as  CEO of Delaware Valley Junior Achievement. Before joining the Beau Biden Foundation, he assumed the role of Director of Advancement at Saint Mark’s High School.

4 join United Way board

United Way of Delaware (UWDE) announced that Julia Ashworth of JPMorgan Chase and Vince Stutts of DuPont were each elected to a three-year term on the UWDE Board of Directors, that Doug Phillips of Horty & Horty, P.A. was elected to a one-year term as Chair of UWDE’s Audit Committee, and that Lauren Russell of Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor was elected as an ex-officio Board member and named General Counsel of UWDE. 

Ashworth is the JPMorgan Chase Managing Director leading the bank’s Southwest Airlines credit card co-brand.

Phillips is president and managing Director, Horty & Horty, P.A., Wilmington.  Horty & Horty, P.A  provides accounting, auditing, tax planning, compliance, consulting, and business advisory services.

Russell is Counsel at Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, Wilmington, and represents employers on a range of issues relating to compliance with local, state, and federal labor and employment laws and constitutional provisions.

Stutts is the Global Director for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) at DuPont.

Watts joins Leadership Delaware as operations chief

Leadership Delaware, Inc., a  year-long leadership development program, hired Jaimie Watts as the Chief of Operations.

Watts currently serves as the director of Marketing and Events for the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce. Before the Chamber, she worked for nearly eight years at the American Cancer Society, training volunteers and raising funds locally and nationally through the organization’s signature event, Relay For Life.

Gulftainer names new CFO

Gulftainer, the parent company of GT USA, which operates the Port of Wilmington and Port Canaveral,  appointed Javier Echeverria as its new chief financial officer. The recruitment of Echeverria is the next step towards the continued growth and international expansion of UAE-headquartered Gulftainer, one of the world’s leading privately owned independent port operators.

In his previous role, Echeverria served as regional finance manager of the Euromed & Americas Region for the Singaporean company PSA, based out of Antwerp, Belgium.
