The Bidens traveled to Rehoboth at mid-week to  celebrate Jill Biden’s 70th  birthday at the home which was   purchased after he completed two terms as Vice President.

As ABC News noted, Jill Biden made the push to convince  her husband to buy a beach home as a getaway.

The President had not visited the beach house since his inauguration in January.

Jill Biden, who earned a doctorate from the University of Delaware and taught at Delaware Technical Community College continues to teach classes at a Washington, D.C. area junior college. She is currently off for the summer.

The Bidens remained at the home near the south end of Cape Henlopen State Park during their stay, but did take a bicycle ride on a trail at the State Park when the weather improved, accompanied by Secret Service agents.

Biden visits have  raised the profile and  provided an economic  boost for Rehoboth Beach, which typically sees quieter conditions just after Memorial Day.

The town’s busiest months are July and August, although more year-around residents have arrived in Coastal Delaware over the years.

The visit by the Bidens was less warmly received in Ocean City, MD, where aerial banner and skydiving businesses have complained about temporary  flight restrictions.

The Bidens’ frequent visits to their home near Greenville also lead to temporary flight restrictions, with one private pilot learning the hard way when a military  jet forced the plane to land at a nearby airport.

Ocean City is about 30 miles south of Rehoboth and also has its busiest months in July and August. The economy in Ocean City is more seasonal and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors and pat-time residents to its high-rise condos and lodging establishments.
