Delaware’s April jobless rate remains steady at 6.4%

Delaware’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Apri was 6.4%, down slightly from 6.5% in March and slightly higher than the national figure.

The Delaware Department of Labor reported  31,100 unemployed Delawareans in April 2021 compared to 63,500 during the lockdown period of  April 2020.

The US unemployment rate was 6.1% in April 2021, up from 6% in March 2021. In April 2020, the US unemployment rate was 14.8%, while Delaware’s rate was 13.4%.

In April 2021, the seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment was 444,300 up from 444,100 in March.

Since April 2020, Delaware’s total nonfarm jobs have increased by  44,800, an 11.3% gain. Nationally, job growth  during that period increased 10.9%.

Below are the jobless rates from lowest to highest from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Delware remains in the mid-30s, behind Maryland at 6.2%, but well below Pennsylvania and New Jersey, 7.4 and 7.5 respectively.
