Delaware is no longer ranked at the bottom when it comes to the volume of Payroll Protection Program loans.
In earlier rounds of the program, the First State had ranked at the bottom, despite its higher population figure.
Still, businesses and other organizations in lightly populated states have secured proceeds from the program, which recently ran out of funds.
For example, lightly populated Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota saw higher loan volumes than Delaware.
The PPP loans can be forgiven if proceeds are used to retain employees. The Small Business Administration program uses financial institutions to process the loans.
The fintech site Womply is calling for more funding for the program.
Womply stated that it has facilitated more loans to minority-owned businesses, and businesses in low- and middle-income areas than any company in 2020 and 2021 combined
Below is an SBA listing of states of loan numbers and totals for states, territories and the District of Columbia. Highlighted are states with comparable populations to Delaware.
