Delaware’s   ranks 35th among the 50 states and the District of Columbia  in a ranking released  from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Delaware’s 6.5 percent  jobless rate ranks higher than the nation’s unemployment rate, but is comparable or lower than rates elsewhere in the region.

The jobless rate for Maryland is slightly lower than Delaware’s figure. By contrast, the jobless rates for Pennsylvania and New Jersey are well above those for Delaware.

Rates range from 2.9 percent in Nebraska, Utah and South Dakota to 9 precent in tourism-dependent Hawaii.

Unemployment rates can trigger discussions on the effects of Covid-19 restrictions. Pressure has been building in Delware and other states to ease restrictions.

Delware has seen an uptick in Covid-19 cases of days, although  new cases have trended down in recent days. (Check out rankings below).
