Covid update: 4 new deaths as new daily cases rise to 381

According to the Wednesday report from the Delaware Division of Public Health, Delaware continues to see an elevated level of coronavirus cases, with 381 new cases.

A month ago, cases were averaging around 200 a day.

The numbers

  • Four new deaths, including one from a review of Vital Statistics, records from March. Of those who died,  two individuals were from Kent County and one each from Sussex and New Castle counties. They ranged in age from their 40s to their 100s. The deaths increased Delaware’s total number of COVID-related deaths to 1,591.
  • 381 new positive cases, bringing the overall total to 99,515.
  • 25.4 percent of people who tested positive in the seven-day rolling average (up four-tenths of a percent from the previous day) and six percent of total tests were positive in the seven-day rolling average, up one-tenth of a percent from the previous day).
  • 155 current hospitalizations (up 3 from the previous day), including 14 individuals in critical condition.
  • 46 new hospital admissions, up 13 from the previous day.
  • 591,853 total vaccine doses administered, up 12,304 from the previous day).

New Castle County is now in the dark red zone of 500 or more cases per 100,000 population. Sussex County, which struggled with Covid-19 a year ago, now has about half the rate of cases as New Castle. Kent County has a slightly lower rate than New Castle.
