Another large chunk of Delaware’s adult population may soon be eligible for vaccinations.

Delaware Online, (subscription) citing a memo to physicians issued on Monday, said that persons under 65 with moderate and serious medical conditions would be eligible for vaccines, with physicians providing their knowledge of patients in determining who should be vaccinated.

The website listed those conditions as ranging from high blood pressure, being overweight, and diabetes. The conditions are widespread in a Delaware population. The state ranks high in conditions such as obesity.

The website noted that Delaware had not  previously opened its vaccination eligibility list to those under 65  with these conditions.

A Delaware coronavirus response spokesman said details of the next steps forward would be discussed at the governor’s briefing, but declined to comment further.

Major announcements are often made on Tuesdays, the day Gov. John Carney holds a weekly coronavirus briefing.

The state is still working through its Phase 1B vaccination list, a category that includes those over 65 and, more recently, frontline workers in food processing and related areas.

A waiting list remains for those on Phase 1B.

Delaware has seen growing supplies and stepped up shipments of vaccines. Nearly one-in-five residents have received at least one dose of vaccine.

President Joe Biden stated last week that all adults would join a vaccination list by early May.
