Newark man arrested after shooting of husband and wife owners of Elkton motel leaves 1 dead

A Newark man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of the  owners of an Elkton motel that left one person dead and the other in critical condition
 
Elkton Police reported the shooting – which occurred around 9 p.m. Friday  over  a room rental dispute at the Best Eastern Motel on Route 40 –   left Dilipbhali Ishvarbrai Patel, 59, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the lower torso. He remains in critical but stable condition at Christiana Hospital. His wife, Ushaben Dilipbhali Patel, also age 59, died  from a gunshot wound to her upper torso.
 
The suspect, identified as Hakeem Markel Evans, 26,  of Newark, was arrested a short time later at the Royal Farms convenience store  at Delancy Road and Route 40 in Elkton. Evans  remains in custody at the Cecil County Detention Center.
