What to know about Frontier service between New Castle and Orlando

 Low-fare carrier Frontier Airlines returned to New Castle Airport with three flights a week and discount fares.

“We’re overjoyed to begin service at New Castle Airport with nonstop flights to Orlando and return commercial air service to Delaware,” said Daniel Shurz, senior vice president of commercial, Frontier Airlines. “Air service is an economic driver for communities and Frontier is committed to providing ‘Low Fares Done Right’ to local flyers. We’re delighted to welcome Wilmington area travelers onboard and look forward to continuing our incredibly valuable partnership with the Delaware River and Bay Authority.”

“Wilmington-New Castle Airport is recognized as a key economic engine for our region, and this new service will boost both business and tourism access to Delaware and the Tri-State area,” said DRBA Executive Director Thomas J. Cook. “With the restart of Frontier’s flights today, the State of Delaware is no longer the only state in the union without regularly scheduled commercial service.” 

The current schedule has flights on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays, with departures from New Castle in the early afternoon and return flights from Orlando at mid-morning. Frequency and times are subject to change.

  • New Castle Airport offers  $5 a day parking after the first hour at the airport. During Frontier’s first stint at the airport, free parking was offered.
  • Frontier offers deep discount fares that can be as low as $19. Passengers then pay for checked bags, carry-ons in overhead bins and assigned seats. Based on March fares, a round trip to Orlando can run about $200 with assigned seating and a checked bag.
  • Frontier offers frequent  sales that lower the base fares.
  • Frontier requires passengers to fill out a health form that states that no one in the household has Covid-19 related symptoms and will wash their hands before boarding. The airline also points out that air in the cabin is circulated and cleaned through HEPA filters.
  • Masks are required during flights, as well as during the boarding process. 
  • Frontier’s states that all jets in  its Airbus fleet are less than four years ago.
  • Frontier offers something known as Discount Den. For a yearly fee, it offers discounts off base fares. 
  • Frontier offers bundles that offer assigned seating, priority boarding, checked luggage and refunds if the flight has to be changed.
  • A flight to from New Castle to  Orlando in March can run $200 round trip, by purchasing a bundle that includes  assigned seating and checked bags.
  • The deep discount fares, such as the current $19 promotion, are not refundable.
  • Airlines flying out of Philadelphia won’t give up without a fight. Southwest Airlines is offering round-trip fares to Orlando as low as $120 in February.
