State has paid out more than $1 billion in jobless benefits since onset of pandemic

The State of Delaware has paid more than $1 billion in unemployment claims since the onset of the coronavirus, the Delaware Department of Labor reported on Thursday.

Benefits are paid through a combination of federal and state unemployment insurance funds. 
 
The state has been using federal CARES funds to help with the surge in unemployment claims and avoid higher taxes for unemployment insurance which is jointly paid paid by employers and employees. Other numbers in the Thursday report from the Delaware Department of Labor. Total benefits paid from 3/15/2020 – 2/13/2021 
  • $1,052,986,022 in unemployment  benefits paid
  • $751,541,096 paid from Federal Government
  • $307,576,742 paid from Delaware Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund
  • 13,815 federal Pandemic Employment Assistance claims filed since 5/16/2020
  • 8,588 PUA claims paid since 5/16/2020
  • $111,590,814 in PUA benefits paid since 5/16/2020
