Rebel Cove plans to open at  33 West location in Dover

Dover is preparing to welcome a new restaurant at the 33 West Loockerman Street location.

Lisa and Steve Kochel, owners of Rebel Cove Grill, have signed the lease and set the goal of an April opening.

Currently located in Middletown, Rebel Cove is a  veteran-owned sandwich shop.

The Dover location will build on that theme but be more upscale, offering expanded lunch and dinner menus.

Downtown Dover Partnership Operations Manager Tina Bradbury said, “The Rebel Cove food truck was a staple at the Capital City Farmer’s Market several years ago and was very well received by the community. When the restaurant space became available, I reconnected with the owners and invited them to take a look. They were really excited and immediately came down to tour the space. Just a week later, they signed the lease.”

Offerings will include  appetizers, Philly cheesesteaks,  “Deadman’s Chest” cheesesteak egg rolls,  Low Tide Fritters, crab cheese fries, and fried brownie bites with salted caramel and a powdered sugar dusting.

Also planned are local brews and introduce and  new signature cocktails.

Bradbury noted  that the community supported 33 West over the years and anticipates the same  response for Rebel Cove.

The Kochels plan to be open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday at the South Bradford and Loockerman Street location. The Middletown location will remain open.

Sugar Factory opens at Dover Downs

The Sugar Factory has opened at Dover Downs after a long pandemic-related delay.

Described as   “The Most Instagrammed Restaurant in the United States” by Food & Wine Magazine, has  locations throughout the nation, the nearest being in Atlantic City and Washington, D.C.

The Instagram photos  sometimes come from celebrities who stop by high profile locations in Las Vegas and New York City and in pre-pandemic times stopped by the new locations.

The restaurant  serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with specialties that include $20 donut burger, and $19 milkshakes. Breakfast and appetizers are less pricy.

Dover Downs will be back to 50 percent capacity later this week. However, Michele’s Steakhouse and a burger restaurant remain closed.

Jerry Longo’s Meatballs and Martinis remains open. The restaurant brings a Rhode Island touch to Delaware.  Its namesake operated a  restaurant in Providence for a number of years..

Dover Downs owner Bally’s, formerly Twin River,  is based in Rhode Island. The publicly traded company is building a sizable casino operation that got its start in Rhode Island.

The company snapped up the aging Bally’s casino in Atlantic City and purchased the brand  from Caesar’s. The Bally’s casino in Vegas remains under the Caesar’s umbrella.

Reservations for the Sugar Factory  can be made through OpenTable.
