Delaware received another  18,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine this week with nearly 25,000 shots available.

Meanwhile, the  First State moved up the list of states ranked by the percentage of the population getting vaccine.

The Delaware vaccination  tracker reported the following as of Thursday

Doses delivered
138,600
Doses administered
113,592
Doses remaining
25,008

Delaware has been faring better than most states in administering the available vaccines.

A report from NPR ranked the First State ninth among the 50 states and Washington, D.C. with 9.1 percent of its population receiving at least one dose. Delaware had previously ranked 10th and at one point this week was eighth before being edged out by the Disctrict of Columbia.

A vaccine data tracking report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows more vaccines in the state (161,526 doses)  with a lower number of vaccinations than the state dashboard. The CDC tracker shows 9,200 Delawareans have received two doses slightly less than one percent of the population.

Ranking first was Alaska with 13.4 percent of the population receiving the vaccine. At the bottom was Idaho at 6 percent.

About two percent of Delaware’s population has received both doses of either Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.

Neighboring Maryland and Pennsylvania have struggled with vaccinations, with rankings of 36 and 40 respectively.

With a limited amount of vaccine available and indications that  Black and Hispanic residents lag in the rate of vaccinations, health officials are working to reach those populations.

Gov. John Carney said this week that Delaware is capable of sharply increasing vaccinations if the supply was sufficient. As of Thursday, no new shipments had been reported after the first 18,000 were delivered.
