Good afternoon,

It was another busy weekend for Delaware Business Now website. Saturday was the third most active day so far this year in web traffic. The busiest day in 2021  was Jan. 20, Inauguration Day.

The hot topic remains Covid-19. As the state’s vaccination effort moves forward, many over 65 and some essential workers await their first shots.

For now, vaccine supplies remain limited, with fewer than 13,000 doses on hand as of today. It will be interesting to find out the size of this week’s vaccine shipments.

Today’s newsletter contains links to stories on the virus as well as more traditional business news.

Biden’s first trip home

One of the faithful readers of this  newsletter said that “taking a shot at our neighbor and President because he chooses to come home for the weekend is off-limits.”

On Friday, I questioned whether Biden was setting the right example in returning to the state so soon in the wake of the CDC doubling down on its advice against travel.

“I am going to suggest he can think more clearly on his home turf than he can in the swirl of the Capitol,” he wrote.  So, if he wants to come home so he can go shopping in Elsmere instead of northwest Washington, he can fly back here every weekend as far as I am concerned.”

Another reader pointed to former President Trump’s far more costly trips to his club in Mar-A-Largo with the jumbo jet version of Air Force One. Biden flew here on the smaller Boeing jet, a plusher version of his vice presidential plane.

The President kept a low profile over the weekend, helping the First Lady pick out items that will go to the White House, attending mass, spending time with family, and checking out the big game. A few social media comments did pop up over a Monday rush-hour motorcade that took the President and First Lady to New Castle Airport.

One final note. British followers of QAnon claimed that because Biden flew the smaller jet, he is a fake president, with Trump returning in March.  Snopes felt compelled to refute the claim, which would be laughable if we did not have so many people believing in such things.

Biden returns to the White House today with a lengthy to-do list that includes getting a handle on ramping up vaccine production and distribution.  – Doug Rainey, chief content officer.
