University of Delaware Professor David Legates has been reassigned from his federal post by the White House.

Legates was appointed by the Trump Administration to a post within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The appointment sent off alarm bells among critics of the administration.

The Washington Post reported that the White House reassigned Legates and another official for their role in producing and publishing controversial papers questioning the seriousness of climate change without administration approval.

The Post said the two officials had been with the   White House Office of Science and Technology Policy but were reassigned to NOAA, which studies climate change, but is best known for operating the National Weather Service.

While at UD, Legates has  served as Delaware  state climatologist, but later left that post after a controversy over claims regarding climate change.

His views have been embraced by conservative groups that approved of Trump’s plans to overturn climate policies from the Obama administration.

He remains on the list of faculty, according to the UD website.
