ChristianaCare COO adds Union Hospital to responsibilities

Sharon Kurfuerst has been appointed President of ChristianaCare, Union Hospital, Elkton, MD.

In her new role, Kurfuerst will oversee efforts to strengthen community relationships in the communities that Union Hospital serves. Union Hospital joined ChristianaCare a year ago.

Kurfuerst also will continue her leadership responsibilities as ChristianaCare’s system chief operating officer, where she heads the development and execution of core enterprise business processes and functions, including campus operations for Newark, Middletown, Wilmington, and Cecil County, where Union Hospital is located; clinical essential services; corporate compliance; facilities and services; urgent care, safety and security; real estate; retail strategy and expansion; and design and construction activities.

When the pandemic struck in March, Kurfuerst led ChristianaCare’s  Covid-19 incident command and response team, coordinating with state and federal government agencies, other health systems, and local officials to protect the health and safety of ChristianaCare caregivers, patients, and communities.

Kurfuerst also led efforts to safely sustain essential ChristianaCare operations, including securing critical personal protective equipment. She oversaw new initiatives, including drive-through Covid-19 testing and providing essential personnel and supplies to communities and medical centers in need.

Kurfuerst joined ChristianaCare in 2007 and held several roles before becoming COO of the health system in 2017.

Former Corteva exec joins Tyson Foods

Tyson Foods, Inc. has named Megan Britt as the company’s new Vice President of Investor Relations. 

Britt will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of investor relations, including shareholder communications, financial media relations, and internet and intranet investor content. She begins her new role on January 4 and will report to Chief Financial Officer Stewart Glendinning. 

Britt holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Agricultural and Applied Economics from Texas Tech University.

Del-One FCU chair retires

Del-One FCU announces the retirement of Nancy J. Shevock as Chairman of the Board of Directors, a position she has held since 2010. 

Shevock, who served as a Board Member beginning in 2003 prior to becoming Chairman, led Del-One during a 10-year period of growth.  During her time on the Board, the Credit Union’s membership grew from 27,000 to 72,000 members, the branch network grew from six to 11 locations, and technologies were implemented to enhance the member experience.

During her professional career, Shevock held a number of executive roles.  She was Executive Director for the Delaware Transit Corporation, Chief Financial Officer for the Capital School District, and a Project Director for the Office of Information Systems for the State of Delaware.  

Blue Rocks names GM

The Wilmington Blue Rocks announced Vince Bulik as the team’s new general manager. Bulik most recently led ticket operations for New York Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. He previously held management positions for the Baltimore Orioles’ minor league affiliate Aberdeen Ironbirds, New York Mets’ minor league affiliate Brooklyn Cyclones and the Philadelphia Soul Arena Football team. Bulik also spent 15 years with the Atlantic League’s Lancaster Barnstormers, an independent minor league baseball team, including three years as general manager.

Bulik succeeds Andrew Layman, a 28-year veteran of the Blue Rocks who moved on to join Wilmington’s Riverfront Development Corporation of Delaware (RDC) as Director of Facilities.

The Blue Rocks joined the Nationals organization in December after serving as the Advanced-A affiliate for the Kansas City Royals for 26 of the team’s 28-year history.

The Blue Rocks are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals and will play in the new Advanced-A Mid-Atlantic League along with teams in Aberdeen, MD (Orioles), Lakewood, NJ (Phillies), Brooklyn, NY (Mets), and Hudson Valley, NY (Yankees).

Diamond State Financial Group planners earn designations

Diamond State Financial Group announced that Joshua Shaver and C. Neil Stalter recently earned the Certified Business Exit Consultant®Designation from the International Exit Planning Association (IEPA).  The Certified Business Exit Consultant® Designation is a significant achievement and further establishes them as expert exit planners in the marketplace today.

Sussex County Register of Wills named

Gov. John Carney announced that he appointed small business owner and farmer Ellen Magee to serve as Sussex County Register of Wills. Magee will replace Cynthia Green, who won the election in November to represent District 2 on Sussex County Council. Under the Delaware Constitution, the governor must appoint a replacement until January 2023. An election will be held to select the next Register of Wills in November 2022.

Saint Francis Healthcare adds physician

Andy Goberdhan, MD, has joined Hematology-Oncology at Saint Francis Healthcare in Wilmington. Goberdhan received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. He is a fellowship-trained oncologist with experience in surgical services. Goberdhan served as a surgical house officer at Nazareth Hospital before pursuing additional training in internal medicine and oncology. In 2016, he was awarded the Outstanding Internal Medicine resident award from Mercy Catholic Medical Center.
