According to a Monday report from Wilmington-based AAA Mid-Atlantic, Delaware saw a tiny decline in gas prices over the past week.

AAA reported the following average gas prices on Monday:
  • Pennsylvania gas average at $2.56 today, unchanged overnight and up 4 cents in the last week.
  • New Jersey gas average at $2.39 today, unchanged overnight and up 4 cents in the last week.
  • Delaware gas average at $2.35 today, unchanged overnight and down 2 cents in the last week.
  • Maryland gas average at $2.35 today, unchanged overnight and unchanged in the last week.
  • Philadelphia (5-county) area gas average at $2.59 today, unchanged overnight and up a penny in the last week.
  • S. Jersey gas average at $2.39 today, unchanged overnight and up 4 cents in the last week.
  • National gas average at $2. today, overnight, and in the last week.

Delaware did have one holdout for  $2 a gallon prices finally raise the price at the pump.

Costco, which has a store southeast of Newark,  is charging $2.05 a gallon, with wholesale club competitor BJ’s following suit. At times, Costco and BJ’s had prices that were 40 cents lower than competitors. Getting those prices requires a $55 to $60 yearly membership.

Delaware also reached another milestone of sorts, with its gas price actually being lower than the figure in neighboring New Jersey. The pump’s average price had been higher in Delaware even though New Jersey’s gas tax is more than 25-cents a gallon higher than Delaware’s figure.

Reasons for the disparity in prices have never been detailed in government or private circles.
