The Wilmington Blue Rocks will join the Washington Nationals farm system, MLB.com reported.

The World Series-winning team’s affiliation comes after long-running ties with the Kansas City Royals and a brief stint with the Boston Red Sox.

The Blue Rocks will remain a “high-A” minor league franchise.

The team has been one of the more successful minor league teams over the years and helped spur the Wilmington Riverfront’s growth with the construction of Judy Johnson Field at Daniel Frawley Stadium.

It remains a mainstay for summer family entertainment with mascots that include Rocky Bullwinkle and Mr. Celery.

The stadium is named after a former Wilmington mayor and a baseball star from the city.

The team’s name came from an earlier minor league team in the city and rocks along the Brandywine.
