Three new deaths were reported in the Tuesday coronavirus report from the Delaware Division of Public Health.

The three individuals were  from New Castle County and ranged in age from their 50s to their 80s

All had underlying health conditions. One individual was a resident of a long-term care facility.

The deaths increased Delaware’s total number of COVID-related deaths to 722.

On Tuesday, reporters reported 208 new positive cases, down from the 300-plus  reported in the previous two days, but double the figures reported in the summer.

The percentage of people testing positive was 11.8 percent, based on a seven-day rolling average and up three-tenths of a percent from the previous day.

The percentage of positive results to total tests was 4.4 percent, up one-tenth of a percent from the previous day based on a seven-day rolling average. The percentage of positives to total tests takes into account people who have been tested multiple times.

Hospitalizations rose to 127,  up eight from the previous day, including 29 in critical condition. The hospitalization figure has more than doubled since the summer.

Like most states, Delaware has seen a sharp rise in coronavirus cases in recent weeks.

Smaller gatherings have been cited as a reason for the surge, which has also made its way into nursing homes in the state.

In a related development, Joe Biden, the projected winner of the presidency, was at the Queen Theater in Wilmington on Monday with Vice Presidential running mate Kamala Harris.  Biden and Harris held a Zoom meeting with members of a recently named Covid-19 task force.

The group has been tasked with coming up with a national policy for dealing with the virus.
