Covid-19 one-day case total soars to a record 465

A total of  465 Delawareans tested positive for coronavirus as of Tuesday night, the Delaware Division of Public Health reported.

Also reported were two additional deaths.

The two deaths were Sussex Countians in their 70s and 80s who also had underlying health conditions. One individual was a resident of a long-term care facility. The deaths increased Delaware’s total number of Covid-19 related deaths to 734.

The 465 new positive cases broke the previous one-day record of 448 cases on May 10, with the total number now at 28,016.

The cumulative breakdown by county: New Castle, 15,113 cases; Kent, 3,956 cases; Sussex, 8,854; county unknown, 93.

The percentage of people testing positive rose to 12.8,  based on a seven-day rolling average up one half of one percent from the previous day). The percentage of positive tests to total tests was 4.8 under the seven-day rolling average, down two-tenths of a percent from the previous day).

Hospitalizations rose to  130, up to four from the previous day), including 22 people in critical condition. New hospital admissions for Covid-19 were 28, up to six from the previous day.

The elevated case totals would seem to indicate that state restrictions are coming sooner not later.  Gov. John Carney warned that conditions were nearing the point that actions would be needed.
