Covid-19 deaths up by 4 as cases surge in Cecil County

The  Cecil County Health Department reported four additional deaths as of Nov. 20 from coronavirus complications. The total number of deaths from Covid-19 now stands at 53.

Most of the deaths have occurred among people over the age of 60.

The county west of the Delaware line has reported nearly 2,000 cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. The number of cases rose by  271 from Nov. 18 to Nov 20.

Like its neighbors in Delaware and Maryland, the county has seen an uptick in cases and hospitalizations since Labor Day, with a surge coming in recent weeks as temperatures drop.

The county is seeing more Covid-19 patients in the hospital.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan ordered restaurants and bars to close at 10 a.m. to slow down the virus’s spread.

Cecil and other counties will now wait to see if the spread intensifies due to Thanksgiving celebrations. Smaller get-togethers from people living outside the household have been cited as major factors in the recent surge in cases.
