Wilmington Brew Works is commemorating the election of Joe Biden with a beer that serves as a  tribute to the daily commute during his many years as a U.S. Senator.

Rail Car One will feature vintage train style artwork of an Amtrak Acela, with the same paint job as Air Force One.

“I had joked around with my partners, wondering if there was an official designation for a Presidential Train Car like there is for an airplane,” says John Fusco, Wilmington Brew Works vice president of Creative and Brand Marketing. “It’s just fun to think of the President traveling back to Delaware on a special train car just for him.”

Craig Wensell, Wilmington Brew Works CEO and brewer, went to work on a beer style that the brewery has become known for – the Northeast IPA.

“The beer is triple dry-hopped with heaps of Mosaic, Citra, and Sultana Hops. In this case, we’ll be calling it a Double Delaware IPA, just like our Delabear beer last winter.” The beer commemorated a black bear’s exploits in the city, including eluding animal control officers in the Trolley Square neighborhood.

A release announcing the new brew also discussed how it is getting through the pandemic.

“To-Go sales really sustained us over the course of the pandemic. We were really hitting our stride in February and March, but a successful business has to be able to pivot when necessary,” said Keith Hughes, Wilmington Brew Works CFO. The brewery has since invested in a canning machine so they can regularly release fresh new cans. This week, in advance of Thanksgiving, it’s releasing a Pumpkin Pie Danish Pastry Quad, a Blackberry Vanilla Sour, and bottles of an Apple Pie flavored Cider.

‘Rail Car One’ will be released to the public on December 7th, Delaware Day. It will be available on their website for taproom pickup. The president-elect is known for being a teetotaler, but that hasn’t dissuaded Wilmington Brew Works. As the label says, ‘While #46 may not engage in the occasional tipple, his fine friends in the first state certainly do. And that’s something we can all agree on.’

Wilmington Brew Works is the only production brewery in Delaware’s largest city. The brewery is housed in a 100-year old former laboratory in the old Ninth Ward. The brewery turns out ales, lagers, sours, and ciders.

Iron Hill brews now offered in Delaware liquor stores.

Iron Hill beer may be available at your favorite liquor store in Delaware. While the offerings are available at Iron Hill locations in Wilmington, Newark, and Rehoboth, Delaware, liquor stores now have Iron Hill on their shelves.

Each Iron Hill location has a small brewery. The company based in Wilmington now operates a production brewery in Chester County, PA. Delaware was out of the running because the state’s antiquated and puzzling laws forbid more than three breweries.

Available are brews such as  Sweet Leaf IPA, Hipster IPA, Philly Favorite IPA, and a rotating selection of seasonal beers. Click here for the location of retailers now carrying Iron Hill.

Wawa, 2SP, bring back coffee-based holiday brews.

Back for its third year, the collaboration between 2SP Brewing Company’s Head Brewer, Bob Barrar, and Wawa’s Manager of Concept Development  Michael McLaughlin,  came up with a new brew – Holiday Reserve Coffee Stout, a creamy coffee oatmeal stout spiced for the holidays with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and balanced with Wawa’s Winter Reserve Coffee blend.

Returning is Reserve Reserve Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Coffee Stout, an imperial coffee stout made with Wawa’s  Winter Reserve Coffee blend and aged for seven months in bourbon barrels. Available for the first time and in limited quantities, Reserve Reserve Rum Barrel Aged Imperial Coffee Stout is aged for seven months in Jamaican Rum barrels.

The brews are available at the 2SP brewery in Aston, PA, and some Wawa stores. It will be available at some beer retailers in Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania, and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

2SP is part of  Newark-based  Two Stones companies, which includes beer-focused restaurants in Delaware and Pennsylvania.
