8 new Covid-19 deaths reported, 6 from nursing home residents

The Delaware Division of Public Health reported eight deaths from coronavirus complications as the number of new cases and hospitalizations remained elevated. 

Of the eight, six individuals were from New Castle County, and two resided in  Sussex County. They ranged in age from their 70s to their 90s, and all had underlying health conditions.  Six of the individuals were residents of long-term care facilities. The deaths increased Delaware’s total number of COVID-related deaths to 732. 

The state has stepped up efforts to monitor long-term care facilities after the virus made its return.

Gov. John Carney has warned that restrictions could be on the way as the number of cases surge.

A total of 193 new positive cases of Covid-19 were reported as of Wednesday night. During the past week, the number of daily cases rose to the 300 level.

The percentage of people testing positive was  12.3, unchanged from the previous day, based on a seven-day rolling average. Five percent of total tests were positive in the seven-day rolling average, up five-tenths of a percent from the previous day.

The percentage of total tests takes into account people who have been tested more than once.

Total hospitalizations were 126,  unchanged from the previous day), including 22 in critical condition.

A daily total of 107 recoveries boosted the total to 14,487.
