Delaware remains in the top 20 when it comes to the employment recovery during the coronavirus pandemic.

The No. 19 ranking came in a weekly report from the WalletHub financial information site. Ranking near the top is Pennsylvania, which at one point had one of the nation’s highest jobless rates.

The rankings include the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Delaware’s unemployment rate remains slightly above the national figure.

Oregon ranks first in the recovery index with Kansas at No. 51.

The job recovery rankings seem to have only indirect  ties to the prevalence of Covid-19 in a given state or decision to reopen businesses or schools.

Georgia and Florida, both of which have seen rapid population growth, rank near the bottom in recoveries. Both have industries (tourism and air travel to name a couple) that have been hammered by the pandemic. Nevada, another fast-growing state with a dependence on tourism jobs, also ranks near the bottom.

Delaware’s reopening decisions have drawn fire from both the left (reopening too fast and the right (too slowly).
