1 additional coronavirus-related death reported as rate of positive tests hovers near 7%

According to the Delaware Division of Public Health, Delaware reported one l death related to coronavirus as of Saturday night.

The deceased individual was from Sussex County in their 60s, who had underlying health conditions. The death increased Delaware’s total number of COVID-related deaths to 681. 

Reported, as of Saturday night, were  117 new positive cases.

The percentage of people testing was 6.9, based on a seven-day rolling average, unchanged in recent days. The percentage of positive tests to total tests was 3.1 percent, unchanged in the past few days.

Hospitalizations were unchanged at 103, with  21 in critical condition.

A five percent rate of positive tests was achieved last summer but has since risen.

The state remains in Phase 2 to ease restrictions on schools, restaurant seating, gym capacity, etc. There have been calls for moving the state to Phase 1 due to the impact on the economy.

Delaware, like most states, has seen an uptick in Covid-19 cases but has not experienced any major outbreaks or surges in positive tests seen most recently in the upper Midwest and mountain states.
