Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County has launched a new adult training program, Train to Gain, specifically for adults who are experiencing barriers to self-sufficiency due to a criminal background. In industry terms, this population is often referred to as the ‘re-entry community’.

The Train to Gain Program is administered in partnership with the Delaware Workforce Development Board and the Delaware Department of Labor, and provides paid work experience to individuals returning from incarceration, while they participate in job readiness training.

Program graduates are welcome to return to Goodwill at any time for support retaining or obtaining employment and marketable job skills.

“As we approach our 100-year anniversary (in 2021) of providing job and related services to underserved individuals across the state of Delaware, we’re excited to have been awarded this contract. Through this new Train to Gain program, we will connect one of the most vulnerable adult populations in our communities – one that’s been particularly hard-hit by the effects of COVID-19 – with soft skills and digital skills training, intensive case management, and paid work experience,” shared Goodwill of Delaware CEO, Colleen Morrone.

In 2019 alone, through its  Workforce Initiatives programs, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County provided more than 19,300 services to individuals throughout the region.
