The latest expansion of the “Curbside Wilmington” initiative moved to the city’s westside.
Initially, four eateries along North Union Street – Eclipse, Merengue House, Dead Presidents, and Milk & Honey – are expanding outdoors on sidewalks and former parking spaces directly in front of their establishments, with more restaurants along the Union Street corridor to be added soon.
This latest expansion of the successful “Curbside Wilmington” effort is the result of a partnership between the City of Wilmington, West Side Grows Together, and The Committee of 100.
The original, ongoing “Curbside Wilmington” project, launched in June with the help of Downtown Visions to aid businesses hurt by the pandemic and encourage patrons to return to the Downtown District over the summer, expanded to the Trolley Square/Forty Acres neighborhood the weekend of August 14-16 with “Dining on Delaware.” “Curbside Wilmington” and “Dining on Delaware” enable local restaurants to offer more seating at safely spaced distances.

“When we began ‘Curbside Wilmington’ back in June, I said then that I hoped to see this new business re-opening model applied to other restaurant districts in the City,” Mayor Mike Purzycki said. “We saw this a few weeks ago with ‘Dining on Delaware’ in Trolley Square, and now I’m very pleased to announce the expansion of this effort to the Union Street corridor. DECO food hall opening on Sept. 14
In other Wilmington dining news, the DECO food hall is reopening on Sept. 14 at the Hotel DuPont/Chemours building in downtown Wilmington.
DECO will offer expanded outdoor dining as well as online ordering and delivery options.

Perfect scores for four restaurants
The Delaware Division of Health cited four restaurants in the state for having perfect scores when it came to inspections for compliance with pandemic restrictions.
Cited were Caffe Gelato, Home Grown Cafe, both in Newark; Easy Speak in Milford and One Coastal on Fenwick Island.
The state has been stepping up inspections, with one establishment closed for a day, due to violations that included no enforcement of facemask rules.
Noncompliance is leading to fines, rather than warnings on major offenses, officials warn.
Rosenfeld’s coming to Wilmington
Rosenfeld’s Jewish Delicatessen is now looking at a Sept. 30 opening at 1204 N. Washington St., near Wilmington Hospital, a social media post reported.
As previously announced, Rosenfeld’s got together with the Big Fish Restaurant Group to open new locations.
The Washington Street location is near Big Fish’s, Washington Street Ale House and Mikimoto’s.
The opening has been delayed by pandemic-related backlogs in the delivery of equipment.
Rosenfeld’s has locations in Ocean City and Rehoboth Beach. – Doug Rainey
