Delaware made the top 20 in a ranking of the economic recovery of states from the coronavirus pandemic.

A weekly report from the WalletHub financial information website has the state ranking 19th among the 50 states. Delaware ranked just behind Maryland in the report. Maryland has a markedly lower unemployment rate than Delaware.

The ranking is based on unemployment claims.

According to U.S. Labor Department report issued Thursday morning, Delaware saw another decline in the number of new jobless claims.

Delaware has seen job losses in every category listed in its monthly unemployment update, with the biggest losses coming in the hospitality industry.

The industry has seen a slow recovery in the number of jobs but has been hobbled by a sluggish summer at the beach.

Ranking higher than Delaware is neighboring Pennsylvania, which finished fifth. The Keystone State’s jobless rates is comparable to Delaware’s figure.

The report shows that Republican leaning “red states” are seeing a faster recovery than blue states. Red states have opened up more rapidly than blue states.

Solidly red South Dakota saw the quickest jobs recovery. However,  Kansas, also a red case, saw the slowest upturn.

Overall, the jobless figures point to a continuing recovery, WalletHub reported.
