Due to strong demand, the Delaware Relief Grant application portal closed at 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The grant program aims to aid small businesses and nonprofits without loans that would add to their debt burden.
Delaware Division of Small Business spokesman Michael Chesney reported that 1,646 applications were submitted during a 36 hour-period immediately after the Labor Day holiday.
The second application round will open no later than October 1.
A total of $100 million has been allocated for the program, which comes out of federal Cares legislation that distributed funds to the State of Delaware and New Castle County. Uses of the funds are limited to purposes related to Covid-19.
The program is managed by the Division of Small Business.
