Weather Service confirms tornado in Sandtown damaged homes, landfill equipment

The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF1 tornado with 100 mile-an-hour winds damaged property in Sandtown, southwest of Dover.

The EF1 tornado traveled 2.6 miles, crossing fields, damaging several homes and uprooting trees. The windows were blown out of one home and took off the roof from another.

It moved to the Delaware Solid Waste Authority’s landfill, blowing out of windows of two front-end loaders and overturning truck trailers.

The Tuesday morning tornado may have dissipated before reaching the Delaware-Maryland border.

The tornado was the second in Delaware that came when Tropical Storm Isiasis moved through the region.

The other tornado took a 29-mile path in an area stretching from an area south of Dover to Glasgow.
