Monday’s Covid-19    summary in Delaware reported 85 new positive cases as of  6 p.m. on  Sunday.

The percentage of positive results to total tests stood at 4.5 percent, based on a 14-day average. That was up from the 14-day average of 4.3 percent on Sunday.  The average number of positive cases over 14 days was 73.

No new deaths were reported.

The Delaware Division of  Public Health also reported 29 current hospitalizations, down one  from the previous day), including seven in critical condition.

Delayed test results put into the state’s corrections system were behind what at first glance looked like a  surge in coronavirus cases, the Delaware Division of Public Health reported earlier.

The cases stemmed from an earlier outbreak in the Sussex Correctional Institution. The outbreak was contained.

The additional  cases boosted the closely watched Johns Hopkins seven-day rate of positive tests to total tests to 7.1 percent, well above Maryland, 4.1 percent and Pennsylvania, 5.1 percent.

The higher  numbers could trigger another quarantine order for Delaware travelers going to states in the New York City metro area.
