A half a dozen Republicans want to take on incumbent Gov. John Carney in November.
Carney also has an opponent, with a Kent County resident David Lamar Williams, Jr. making a July filing, with Delaware Department of Elections.
Candidates running as Democrats or Republicans have until Tuesday to file for office.
The GOP ranks include two state senators and former congressional candidate Scott Walker.
State Sen. Colin Bonini will make a second run for governor after losing to Carney four years ago. Bonini will square off against fellow senator Bryant Richardson.
Bonini lost to Carney in his first run for governor. He is known for always voting against the state budget. Richardson, in his first term as senator has focused on social issues, such as limits to abortions.
Two years ago, Walker gained the Republican nomination for the state’s lone congressional seat and went on to be defeated by Lisa Blunt Rochester. He has sometimes been mistaken for a former governor from Wisconsin.
On its website, the Delaware GOP has listed Bonini, Richardson, Seaford lawyer Julianne Murray and Greenwood business owner David Bosco as candidates for the top state post.
The crowded field of GOP candidates is believed to be tied to the reopen Delaware movement, which has been harshly critical of Gov. Carney’s coronavirus-related emergency orders.
Update: It was reported in a blog post that Shea is no longer running for governor. While Shea has retained his website, the candidate’s Facebook page has been taken down.
Shea had earlier stepped away from Bellefonte Brewing Co. after a controversy over what had at first appeared to be the brewery’s endorsement of an event tied to the reopen Delaware movement.
The brewery with locations in north Wilmington and Prices Corner had been co-founded by Shea. Bellefonte went on to disavow any association with the event.
