Percentage of Delawareans testing positive for coronavirus rises to 5.1 percent in Tuesday report

The Delaware Division of Public Health on Tuesday reported 122 new cases of coronavirus, up from a revised figure of 104 on Monday.

Two new deaths were reported bringing the fatality toll from complications of Covid-19 to 525. The number of hospitalized rose to 58, up 11 in the past two days.

The closely watched percentage of persons testing positive rose to 5.1 percent from Monday’s revised figure of 4.1 percent. Seven-day averages have been running below 5 percent, a metric used by the World Health Organization.

Monday report

The Delaware Division of Public Health reported 102 new positive cases (revised from 102) of coronavirus bringing the total to 13,624 (another three positive cases were attached to previous days because of lab reporting delays).

No new deaths were reported. The results cover a 24-hour period ending at  6 p.m. on Sunday.

The percentage of people testing positive was revised upward from  3.4 percent to 4.1 percent, below the 5 percent that can result in states like New Jersey and New York ordering travelers from Delaware to be quarantined.

A total of 56 current hospitalizations were reported, up nine from the previous day, with 14
in critical condition.
