Ocean City, MD Mayor Rick Meehan has issued an order that requires masks on the boardwalk.
The order goes into effect at 5 p.m. today and is effective between the hours of 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.
The order also includes children ages five or older.
In the spring, Meehan had pushed for an opening Ocean City’s hotels and boardwalk.
Delaware by contrast stuck with a later opening and has stayed with a mask requirement on boardwalks. Rehoboth Beach did pull back from an order requiring masks on the beach.
Of late, both the Ocean City and neighboring coastal areas of Delaware have seen an increase in Covid-19 cases, often from younger workers in the hospiality industry and among lifeguards.
Earlier this week, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan ordered that masks be worn in all public places as the number of Covid-19 cases accelerates.
