Rehoboth Beach Police have fired a seasonal member of the department over racially charged remarks made on social media.

The department was alerted by  “internal law enforcement resources to an inappropriate, racially-based post on a social media platform by one of its off-duty seasonal employees. While the post has been widely circulated, we will not amplify this type of unprofessional and discourteous behavior by repeating what was said or sharing the image. This incident has been investigated and the employee is no longer a member of the Rehoboth Beach Police Department.”

“The Rehoboth Beach Police Department would like to reassure our citizens and visitors that racism has no place within our community and will not be tolerated. It is our hope that the efficient investigation and adjudication of this incident demonstrates our mission to enhance public safety by working with our diverse community to improve their quality of life,” the post concluded.
