Delaware pays out nearly $480 million in jobless benefits during pandemic

    In its weekly social media update and graphic, Delaware Department of Labor reported that nearly 112,000 unemployment claims were filed between mid-March and mid-June.

    The number of initial claims received for the weekend ending, June 20 totaled nearly 2,800.

    Delaware is expected to use federal  CARES Act funding from the federal government in paying for unemployment benefits. 

    Last week, Delaware reported a 15.8 percent jobless rate for May. The jobless rate had been about four percent in the months leading up to the coronavirus pandemic.

    Of that amount…

    • $322.6 million  paid from Federal Government (FPUC $600)
    • $131.4 million paid from the Delaware Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund.
