The steel has gone up quickly at the site of the Amazon Fulfillment Center on a portion of the site of the former GM Boxwood assembly plant.
It’s part of a major expansion by the online giant, which has been leasing smaller distribution sites in the Philadelphia area, according to a recent story from the Philadelphia Business Journal (Paywall)
The company working to keep up with demand and is offering more same-day deliveries in major markets.
Amazon has other fulfillment sites in Middletown and New Castle. The New Castle site dates back to the early days of the company, which started as an online bookseller.
An Amazon spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request regarding an opening timeframe for the site west of Wilmington in the Newport area. (Click on the headline below for earlier story).
The Boxwood site purchased by Harvey, Hann, and Associates with a portion of the site sold to industrial developer Dermody Properties. The site has additional room for distribution centers and other enterprises.
