The Delaware Division of Health reported a  total of 177 deaths and  542 positive COVID-19 cases among long-term care residents at Delaware facilities.

The numbers are based on information received on 6 p.m. Thursday.

The number of hospitalizations in Delaware has declined slightly. However, the number of deaths has not yet  shown signs of dropping, due in part to deaths tied to long-term care centers that typically have medically fragile individuals.

The state has stepped up efforts to improve practices at long-term care facilities in an effort to deal with outbreaks. Also planned is COVID-19  testing of all personnel and patients at the facilities.

Milford Center, Genesis Healthcare topped the list at 31 deaths, followed by Harrison House Senior Living in Georgetwon with 20. The two health care centers are near or within the COVID-19 hotspot in Sussex County
