Applications are now being taken for Delaware contact tracers.

The state earlier announced plans to hire 200 in partnership with NORC at the University of Chicago. Neighboring Maryland is also using NORC in its contract tracing effort.

Job openings in Wilmington, Newark, Seaford and Dover are listed on the NORC website. Delaware residents are urged to apply.

The hirings are seen as key to efforts to reopen businesses and offices in Delaware.

The part-time positions of 20 to 25 hours a week run for at least six months.

The job involves tracking down and interviewing people who had contact with someone testing positive for coronavirus. Calls will be made three to five days a week in four to six-hour shifts.

Delaware National Guard members have completed training to serve temporarily as contract tracers.
