The Genesis Health Care Center in Milford is emerging as a coronavirus hotspot with a dozen deaths and much of the staff testing positive.

WBOC  and other media outlets reported that a  statement from the Kennett Square-based long-term care center company confirmed that a dozen deaths have occurred with five-dozen residents and a half a dozen staff members  testing positive for the virus.

The number of deaths is far greater than the seven reported yesterday by the Delaware Division of Health.

Milford itself has emerged as a hotspot for COVID-19, based on an updated zip code map from the Delaware Division of Health, with a large number of coronavirus tied to the Genesis site.

Earlier this week, Gov. John Carney amended his emergency order to include stepped-up monitoring of long-term care facilities in Delaware.

In a statement on its website, Genesis said it is providing staff with protective equipment, but did urge governments and others to expand the number of available test kits.

The company did not immediately return an Email request for comment.

Genesis is a publicly-traded company with properties around the nation. Its shares were trading at 82-cents each today. Shares had traded in the $1.75 area in February.
