Former President Barack Obama endorsed his former Vice President Joe Biden in the race for the White House.

Obama stayed away from a formal endorsement until former U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders endorsed the former U.S. Senator from Delaware on Tuesday.

That led to speculation that relations between the two had grown more distant, especially when Biden’s campaign appeared to lose momentum and energy. Biden recovered from early setbacks and went on to win a string of primaries, many by a wide margin.

Obama put such speculation by praising  Biden a friend as well as a capable leader.

in a 12-minute message (see below) Obama praised Biden and his role in the administration’s efforts to turn around the economy after the steep downturn of 2008 and 2009 and in spearheading efforts to fight Ebola.

Biden also praised Sanders and the lengthy list of Democratic candidates who sought the nomination.

Obama’s remarks also touched on the coronavirus crisis and the pain many Americans are enduring.
