Northern Delaware oyster lovers have a way to contribute to the improvement of shorelines.

The partnership for the Delaware Estuary has launched a program with George & Sons Seafood Market in Hockessin to recycle oyster shells.

To date, the partnership has reinforced 1,300 feet of shoreline with recycled oyster shells, and it hopes to add more.

Delaware is also using oyster farming in an effort to improve water quality in its inland bays in Sussex County. The oysters are beginning to show up at area restaurants.
