JPMorgan Chase will open a Chase  financial center branch later this year at the Newark Shopping Center.

Chase spokesperson Ashlei Bobo said the branch will open in the third quarter of this year.

Chase had long been rumored  to be an occupant of a site at the front of the shopping center on East Main Street. Recently,  the site has been fenced off.

The Newark Shopping Center is already the home of a PNC branch.

In late February, Chase opened branches at the Christiana Fashion Center south of Wilmington and in West Chester, PA. Earlier openings included branches at its high rises on Walnut Street in Wilmington and Concord Pike, north of Wilmington.

While other banks have been paring down their branch systems, Chase has been moving into markets where it did not have a brick and mortar banking presence.

Chase has closed branches in more mature markets as more people do their banking online.

Chase, which has a technology hub near Wilmington, has been investing heavily in apps and other fintech tools for banking and other financial services.

Chase is Delaware’s second-largest private employer with a workforce of 11,000 and job sites scattered around the Wilmington and Newark areas.
