Cecil County reports 16th coronavirus case

Cecil County has reported 16 cases of coronavirus, according to the Cecil County Department of Health.

The first case was disclosed a little more than a week ago. No deaths have been reported.

Maryland has reported 18 deaths from the virus as of Tuesday morning. On a population basis, the state is faring better than Delaware, which has reported 10 deaths, even though it has one-sixth the population of Maryland.

The number of Cecil County cases and the lack of clusters indicate that the disease is now in the community spread phase, health officials stated.

Eastern Cecil County is adjacent to Newark, which saw Delaware’s first cluster of cases that involved members of the University of Delaware community.

Like its counterparts elsewhere, the Cecil Health Department is urging residents to stay at home and practice social distancing. The state also has a stay at home order in place.
