UD opening Esports arena on Friday

On Friday, the University of Delaware is holding a grand opening for its Esports arena for the UD community.

The new Esports Arena is on the main floor of the Perkins Student Center. Tours of the arena have been offered for students.

The arena will be home to varsity Esports teams that will compete against other colleges across the country.

The arena will initially feature 25 games and will also be available for use by any student with a UD ID.

Esports has grown in popularity with some tournaments offering millions of dollars in prizes. In a related development, a 16-year-old from the Philadelphia suburbs won $3 million in a Fortnite tournament.

The University of Delaware was aided by the NCAA loosening some of its rules, The  Review student newspaper reported.
