Redner’s plans to move into the Coastal Sussex County grocery market with a store in a community near the Five Points area.
Fernmoor Homes and Redner’s Markets this week announced the lease signing and final plans for the opening of a new Redner’s Fresh Market to be located within Fernmoor’s Vineyards Community near Lewes. The market is slated to open in spring 2021.
Fernmoor Homes is developing The Vineyards as a mixed-use commercial, residential community. The company has residential development in New Jersey and Delaware.
Redner’s Markets, Inc., an employee-owned company, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2020 and operates 44 grocery stores and 21 Quick Shops in eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware.
The “Fresh” brand is not to be confused with the Fresh Market located near Rehoboth Beach.
Redner’s has found an attractive market in central and southern Delaware and now has nine stores in an area extending from Dover to Georgetown. The fast-growing does not have a dominant grocer with chains, such as Acme exiting the market.
Redner’s has stayed out of New Castle County, DE but has an adjacent location in Elkton, MD.
Redner’s, with its mid-sized grocery stores, is not afraid to compete with Walmart, which has a big chunk of the grocery market south of the C&D Canal in Delaware.
