The Newark area travel and tourism economy could get a nice boost from an October event just across the state line.

The Maryland 5 Star will be held at Fair Hill in Cecil County, MD Oct.  14-18.

It is one of two 5 Star equestrian events in the United States and the seventh worldwide. It is also known as the Equestrian Triathlon. Upgrades have been made to the Fair Hill complex just west of Newark. That paved the way for the event to come to the internationally known equestrian complex.

Hotel representatives have been invited to a  kick-off meeting with the leadership of this international event on Wednesday,  Feb. 19, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the meeting room in the Newark Embassy Suites.

The event will not be held on a University of Delaware football weekend,  allowing more  hotel rooms to be available.
