Frontier Airlines has extended its service schedule for flights to and from Wilmington-New Castle (ILG) and Orlando.

The ultra-low fare airline had offered flights through early August, but recently extended its flight schedule to Nov. 8.

The shorter booking timeframe is also used by much larger Southwest Airlines, which has stayed with its version of the low-fare model that gives passengers two bags at no extra charge.

Frontier charges for all luggage other than a bag you can fit under the seat. It also offers fare bundles that can include assigned seats, a checked bag, and no change fees.

Southwest does not assign seats but has an extra cost option that allows earlier boarding. It also does not levy change fees for a change in plans.

Other airlines schedule flights much further into the year, often with higher fares and cancellation fees. Some travelers, who like to reserve holiday and other trips well in advance,  often don’t mind shelling out the extra dollars.

The key for Frontier is to fill 85 percent of the seats in a competitive market. Frontier’s secret weapon for Orlando may be its Kids Fly Free option.

If you sign up for their $60 a year Discount Den membership, one child can fly free for each adult. You  still have baggage fees, but a family of four or more may be able to put together a good deal.

Under available fares, you might be able to get a family of four to Orlando for $600, even when paying for the Discount Den memberships.

Similar prices are available from Philadephia on Frontier.
