This month, De Turf  began its 2020 tournament season by welcoming over 100 soccer teams to Kent County for the annual Keystone-Diamond Showcase.

“Our ultimate mission is to drive sports-associated tourism to Kent County and be one of the county’s strongest economic drivers, and we saw that this weekend,” said Chris Giacomucci, executive director of DeTurf. “By providing a world-class facility for kids and their families to enjoy, we have no doubt that our fourth season will be a busy one, supporting an array of Kent County businesses as we welcome new and returning visitors throughout the year.”

In 2019, the DE TURF Sports Complex saw attendance of more than 200,000. Tournaments at the Turf generated over $34 million in economic spending at hotels, restaurants, transportation and retail, a release stated.

This month’s Keystone-Diamond Showcase marked the first of more than 40 events the DE TURF will host in 2020, which featured   soccer talent from the Eastern PA Youth Soccer and Delaware Youth Soccer Associations. Players traveled from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware.

Also scheduled are the Shooting Stars Easter Weekend Field Hockey Festival, the Beast of the East National Flag Football Championships and the World Series of Youth Lacrosse Northeast Qualifier in March.
