Fast-growing CSC purchased 112 S. French Street in the City of Wilmington — the Pennsylvania Railroad Building near the Biden Wilmington Train Station.
The building is 43,000-square-feet with six floors and stands adjacent to the Wilmington train station served by Amtrak and SEPTA. A new DART bus hub and parking structure is nearing completion.
It is also considered to be part of the city’s expanding Riverfront area. The former occupant was INGDirect and its successor Capital One.
CSC and other employers are now looking to rail and bus routes in attracting younger workers who may choose to live use mass transit to commute from Philadelphia or elsewhere in the city.
“CSC is encouraged by and committed to investing in the growth of the City of Wilmington,” says Rod Ward, CEO of CSC. “We’re excited about bringing CSC into the heart of the city and the prospects of attracting employees and new business to the area. This adds another destination for a new generation of entrepreneurs and business startups.”
According to CSC Vice President Scott Malfitano, CSC Station, the new name of the structure, will undergo multi-million dollar renovations scheduled to be completed in Fall 2020. The building will include a new two-story atrium and upgrades to equipment and infrastructure.
The first two floors will be transformed into a co-working space, including hot desks, event space, and a variety of offices and conference rooms. CSC will also develop an innovation hub that will be available to its teams around the world.
“We are very pleased to welcome this long-established Delaware company to Wilmington,” says Mayor Mike Purzycki. “CSC has a wonderful reputation worldwide, nationally, and here at home. We are grateful to CSC for expressing confidence in our city and acknowledging the progress we are making by becoming part of Wilmington’s exciting future.”
CSC has enjoyed rapid growth in recent decades as it added business services worldwide.
In 2017, CSC built its new 148,000-square-foot facility that sits on nearly 40 acres west of Wilmington at the corner of Lancaster Pike and Centerville Road.
In 2016, CSC acquired the three-story office building at 2801 Centerville Road and completed renovation in January 2020.
The company got its start more than a century ago when Delaware moved to become the nation’s incorporation capital.
The lease is good news for the Wilmington office market which has struggled with the addition of half a million square feet to the market as Bank of America sold its office complex.
