ChristianaCare has implemented temporary changes to the visitor policy at Christiana Hospital and Wilmington Hospital.

Children under the age of 16 are not permitted to visit patients at the hospitals until further notice. Children younger than 16 are more likely to get the flu and remain contagious longer than adults. This restriction does not apply to outpatient services.

To avoid getting the flu and to protect your loved ones, it is recommended  that you get your flu shot, cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands frequently and avoid close contact with people who have flu symptoms.

ChristianaCare  the state’s largest health care system, joined Bayhealth, the second-largest system, in implementing the restrictions.

Flu deaths in Delaware have risen to five in Delaware. In nearly all cases, the individuals had underlying health conditions and had not received flu shots.
